Stunning Bombay Breakfast at Dishoom | Covent Garden

Bombay-Breakfast-At-Dishoom
I am a late one to the game having only just managed to try breakfast at Dishoom earlier this year. In fact, it was so unbelievably delicious that I've already been back a second time.

Pre-baby, getting up early at the weekends and venturing out into London before noon was impossible but post-baby, brunch is a piece of cake, or naan in this case.

As none of us had ever been to Dishoom for breakfast, we decided to get a load of their signature dishes to share between the 3 of us. The big breakfast, spicy chicken keema with buns and sausage naan rolls were ordered.

This is The Big Bombay, a twist on the classic English breakfast. Good quality sausage, bacon, half a grilled tomato and grilled mushrooms offered the familiar English we were used to, and the Bombay spin consists of masala beans, curry omelette and buns instead of toast.

Oh the masala beans! They were incredible. Tomatoey beans with added masala spice, an ingenious creation. This beans stayed on my mind long after I went home. The buns were another favourite, toasty on the outside, pillowy soft on the inside and reminded me of the buns common to Hong Kong cha chaan teng cafes.

Spicy chicken mince with a tiny hint of liver, served with runny yolked eggs and spicy chip sticks was another absolute winner. Every morsel was full of flavour and again served with the delightful fluffy buns. The meaty bite of the keema with the silky coating of egg yolk and crunch of the chip sticks was a textural masterpiece.

The naan is as good as naans get, filled with a hearty sausage and chilli tomato jam. The chilli jam was a little too sweet for my liking and I guess I'd been expecting ketchup. Now, curry ketchup would have worked wonders.

On my second visit, Kelly and I went full steam ahead and ordered a side of masala beans each. They were that good. And this time, we tried the bacon naan which I loved even more than the sausage, I am a bacon kinda girl after all.

Just writing this post has me craving for all of this! No wonder the queues never diminish at Dishoom, with food this good on offer daily. Sometimes fusion food falls flat on its face but not here, oh no. Dishoom have put on winning combinations and flavours and since there are no other places like it in London/UK, this place will be going strong for a very long time to come.

I've been a few times for their regular lunch/dinner menu and the curries are all rather impressive too. If you've yet to go to Dishoom for a Bombay breakfast, make it your priority because you are definitely missing out.
