Brunching out is not something I indulge in much at all, simply
because I don't usually roll out of bed til around midday if I have nothing
planned at the weekends.
But an all American brunch is
pretty hard to resist especially when there are promises of fried
chicken waffles and fluffy pancakes among other things, so a few
weekends ago I got up super early and headed into town.
I've
never been to the
Hard Rock Cafe* before. It has been around for years
and I have to admit it sounds too touristy for the food to be any good, but I'm prepared to be surprised.
The menu sounds really great, and I can't wait for the food to arrive!
We kick start brunch with Bloody Mary's, it's a virgin one for me. Love the condiments that are offered to spice things up.
The decor and atmosphere is certainly rock and roll, with the walls adorned with memorabilia.
As we settle in, the live band starts playing. They are really good and gets the crowd going. It's pretty loud though and we end up shouting across the table to chat.
First up are the bagels and pancakes which we each got a plate of. The salmon cream cheese and whipped butter to go with the bagels were absolutely divine and the warm fruit compote went so well with the fluffy pancakes. It's a great start.
Then comes the show stopper - fried chicken with waffles, crispy bacon, chipolata sausages, fried potatoes, cowboy beans, grilled tomatoes and mushrooms!
I had in mind the chicken would taste like KFC, so when they didn't I was a little dissapointed, but they were not bad. The bacon, fried potato and sausages get the thumbs up from me whilst the beans and tomatoes were missable.
The only real complaint I had about the brunch platter were the odd number of items. The 4 of us were expected to share 3 waffles, 3 tomatoes, and 7 sausages. It would have been far better had it been evenly portioned for the number of people the platter was served to.
My plate.
The baked eggs came quite late and arrived cold. We were already pretty full by then and even though I'm not a big fan of eggs, these really didn't do it for me or any of us on the table.
For £29.95 per person, I have to say it's really great value for money for the amount of food and unlimited drinks (including alcohol) served! Most of the food was delicious, and I know I rolled out with a satified belly. There was actually still so much leftover that we couldn't finish off, so I took a doggy bag home for G, and he was super happy about that.
I loved the idea of an all American breakfast and I might just be back for the cravings hit again in the future.
Brunching ladies.
Do you guys have a favourite brunch place that I should know about? I'd love to hear!
