Grub Crawl in Brixton Village Market

A grub crawl has to be one of the best foodie things I've experienced in London lately, and I am honestly a little surprised why it has never really crossed my mind to do before?! Well, I'm usually a greedy kind of eater and find it hard to pace myself whilst eating, so this might have been one of the reasons. Ha.

However, this brilliant idea of a Grub Crawl is by the lovely Hannah, who is keen to show what's on offer in the foodie scene at Brixton Village Market. Grub Crawl hasn't started yet and a group of us were invited to test out the idea. It definitely gets a thumbs up from me!

We get starters in one restaurant, go to another for mains and of course we'll finish off with dessert at our last stop. Our Grub Crawl consisted of Hannah, myself, Snita, Megan, Connie, and Jaklien. A perfectly sized group!

1st stop: Champagne + Fromage

We start off at Champagne + Fromage with cheeses, cured meats, pickles, olives, tartines and of course champange. Amongst the lot, there was a special blueberry salami which I'd never heard of before! For someone who does not like stinky cheese, I still enjoyed myself very much. The melted cheesy tartines with sausage and potatoes were so addictive.

We were all quite filled up from the starters alone since there was so much of it, and we didn't even polish the lot off. Before we got too cosy, we made our way over to French + Grace for our mains.

2nd stop: French + Grace

Middle Eastern style food is served in the form platters filled with falafels with tahini, pickles, halloumi made from sheeps milk, Za'atar flatbread, candied beetroot with smoked feta, labneh (salted and strained yoghurt) garlic and mint oil, muhammara (spicy walnut and tomato) and rosemary butterbean hummus with shredded lamb. We also get an Uber wrap with chorizo, halloumi, coleslaw, bulgar wheat, harissa and tahini wrap which I adored!

By now, all of us are filled to the brim and we can hardly believe the amount of food we've been given! We have dessert next and luckily, we're able to take it home if we were too full to enjoy it.

3rd stop: Sponge + Cream

I pick a piece of gorgeous chocolate and raspberry cake, and whilst I could only stomach one bite, it was utterly delicious!! It was the perfect breakfast the following day haha.

I had such a wonderful evening and Hannah is the perfect host! The concept of a Grub Crawl is so easy and if you're thinking you could easily do this yourself, let me tell you that their are perks that you can't do by yourself.

1) Hannah has reservations for all the dining spots. This is not usual practice in Brixton Village Market, so we are talking about eating great food without having to queue!

2) All the vendors in the market back the Grub Crawl and as a result, they are extra generous with portion sizes.

3) If there's enough of you (5 and under) you have enought people for a private Grub Crawl.

4) If there's not enough of you, you get to meet like-minded people bonding over a shared love of good food.

5) And before you get too comfy in any of the dining spots, Hannah will smoothly guide you into the next restaurant so there's no chance of running late.

6) Oh, and you don't get lost looking for restaurants inside the maze that is Brixton Village Market!

If you'd like to be one of the first to try the Grub Crawl for yourself, make sure you subscribe to the emails on Grub Crawl's website, the next one is on 26th November! Prices are super reasonable starting from £35.00.
