Gingerbread House
My very first gingerbread house! My sister and I were especially keen to make our first gingerbread house after the fun we had at the Biscuiteer's event earlier on in November.
We were going to buy kits but had left it quite late, and the only option was to bake our own on Christmas eve. I fiddled with some free style drawing on paper whilst my sister made the gingerbread using her favourite recipe. We then placed the cut out paper templates on the dough, cut, bake and trimmed the edges since they expanded in the oven.
We each decorated half the gingerbread house and then stuck it all together. We are so proud of our efforts!
I had acually bought a £2.99 pre-made gingerbread house kit from Ikea
and took it with me to Hong Kong to have some fun with my niece, but
disaster struck when I didn't make the icing thick enough to hold the sides together. It fell and shattered beyond repair! Good thing my niece only cared about eating the sweets and gingerbread, haha. Here are the photos which started off pretty well.
How pretty! I said to J we will make one each next year and do it on xmas day!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Yes, one each and it's a fun xmas day activity. The £2.99 ikea ones are pretty good!
DeleteWow, impressive. The few couple of times I've attempted to bake my own gingerbread house in the past I've failed miserably; couldn't even dream of doing it this well!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kie! This was our first ever gingerbread house, and all credit goes to my sister.
DeleteYou have 12 months to practice until next xmas =D
I have to say, these things look difficult to make - absolutely worth it though!
ReplyDeleteHaha it is fiddly with the icing, but lots of fun!
